Mission Statement

Cabarrus Literacy Council’s mission is to elevate the literacy level of adults in Cabarrus County, educate decision makers on literacy issues and empower students to enhance their life experiences and reach personal development goals by equipping them with literacy skills.

Description

The Cabarrus Literacy Council is a 501(c)(3) non profit that trains adults in Cabarrus County to be literacy tutors. We offer 5 programs to adult learners in Cabarrus County:

1. Adult Basic Education (English skills to English speakers)

2. English to Speakers of Other Languages

3. U.S. Citizenship Exam preparation

4. High school equivalency exam preparation

5. Reading groups for inmates at the Cabarrus County Detention Center

(And we also built and maintain an inmate library within the detention center staffed by CLC volunteers.)
