While United Way works to tackle complex, long-term community challenges, we also understand it is critical to meet the immediate basic needs of individuals, families and older adults in our region. With the recent closure of a local variety store in Avondale, residents face an urgent need for assistance. The store was the primary source for purchasing personal care products, food and other essential items. Families, individuals and older adults must now travel to other neighborhoods, which presents transportation challenges. Community leaders asked for United Way’s support until a permanent solution is in place, and we invite you to join us in this effort. We created a Virtual Product Drive - with the top needed items as identified by Avondale residents - so volunteers can shop for items and send them directly to United Way. Our team will process the product donations and work with Avondale community partners to immediately distribute the items to families, individuals and older adults. Here’s how you can help: Visit our Virtual Product Drive page, powered by Amazon.com. When you sign-up, you will receive an auto-reply from VolunteerMatch with the link to the product drive. Select items you would like to donate. Our goal is to collect 300 total items and get them to residents as soon as possible. Don’t forget to select the Avondale Virtual Product Drive shipping address during checkout. Thank you so much for uniting with us to support Avondale residents.

Sign-up, and someone will contact you with more information! In 2022, United Way of Greater Cincinnati launched the first annual Backpacks for Success collection in support of several Faith-Based and community partners in Hamilton County. Volunteers like you enabled incredible results, contributing over 1,800 backpacks filled with school supplies for elementary, middle, and high school students. This year, we are excited to continue supporting our partners in Hamilton County and to expand this program to reach students and families in Northern Kentucky and on the West Side of Cincinnati. United Way of Greater Cincinnati is asking community and corporate partners to collect, assemble and help distribute 2,500 backpacks filled with school supplies. GET INVOLVED: Virtual Product Drive - Purchase school items for elementary and middle/high school students from our Virtual Backpacks for Success product drive. Host Your Own Assembly Event - Purchase backpacks and school supplies on your own (United Way will provide a list), assemble the backpacks with friends, family, or colleagues, and deliver them to United Way for distribution. Volunteer in Person - Volunteers (including small groups up to 10 people) are needed for the Back-to-School events listed above

Black Empowerment Works promotes Black self-determination, social mobility and economic prosperity by providing resources and funding to grassroots/community-based, Black-led work. Since its inception in 2020, the program has invested over $3 million in 100 ideas and their leaders. As a core tenet of the program, community members make the investment decisions. Reviewers will work in small teams of three to five, reading a subset of the applications submitted. Through written application reviews and conversations with grant applicants, they will work to identify applicants in their pool they would like to fund. Final funding decisions will be made following the assessment of information collected from all review teams.
