Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The mission of the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo is to provide quality educational and conservation programs, wildlife rehabilitation, and recreational opportunities related to the environment as well as the natural and cultural history of the area.
At the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo we ignite and keep alive our children's inborn sense of wonder, and renew our adult's own delight in the mysteries of earth, river, and sky.
Our environmental education programs and activities are rooted in the belief that we can live compatibly with nature and act equitably toward each other. We help people of all ages to understand the ecology of Southeastern Colorado and to connect with our unique environment. Our activities are learner-centered and provide people with opportunities to construct their own understanding through hands-on, minds-on investigations. Many of our activities are multidisciplinary and touch on science, civics, social studies, mathematics, geography, English language arts, economics, the arts, and history.
The grounds at the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo offer a variety of opportunities for recreation. Bird watching and other wildlife viewing are even more popular today than when we originally opened in 1979. Many people use us as access to the Arkansas River for fishing. Our deck allows those who are physically challenged to enjoy fishing as well. The 27-mile Pueblo River Trail System goes right through our facility and many people take advantage of that for biking, skating, horseback riding, and just walking in a beautiful and safe place. Our xeriscape plaza not only provides information about drought tolerant plants to many of our local gardeners it also often serves as a backdrop for weddings and organizational picnics. Many family reunions and other special events have been held in our picnic pavilion.
