Work directly with patients and families in your own community as a committed listener providing companionship and support, translation, and/or relief for the caregiver. You may volunteer weekdays, evenings, weekends, etc. Usually, volunteers see patients once a week or every other week. The primary need is patient companionship-simply being there to make a positive difference in the life of another.

H ospice provides support for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so that they may live as fully and as comfortably as possible. Hospice recognizes dying as part of the normal process of living and focuses on maintaining the quality of remaining life. Hospice affirms life and neither hastens nor postpones death. Hospice exists in the hope and belief that though appropriate care, and the promotion of a caring community sensitive to their needs patients and their families may be free to attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death that is satisfactory to them. Hospice, to the maximum extent possible, accepts patients regardless of ability to pay.

As a Bereavement volunteer you can provide compassionate supprt to families and individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one, offering companionship, listening, and resources during a difficult time, ofen through phone calls, grief support groups or other forms or support. · Making Phone Calls: Many hospice programs utilize volunteers to make regular phone calls to bereaved families, offering check-ins and expressing support. · Writing Caring Notes: Volunteers can also write and deliver cards or notes to bereaved families, offering words of comfort and support. · Providing Support and Companionship: Bereavement volunteers offer a listening ear and a supportive presence to those who are grieving, allowing them to share their stories and emotions. · Offering Resources and Information: connect bereaved individuals with community resources and information about grief counseling, support groups, and other services.
