Mission Statement

Wheels to Water provides life-changing experiences to people with disabilities through adaptive kayaking trips. By getting out of a wheelchair or other mobility device and onto the water, individuals are immersed in a sense of freedom and empowerment. The ability for people with even the most extreme disabilities to propel themselves in the same manner as anyone else serves as an equalizer rarely experienced in everyday life.

Description

Wheels to Water provides free kayaking trips to people with disabilities throughout Southern California. We use state-of-the-art adaptations that allow individuals with greater physical limitations (such as quadriplegia) the ability to paddle a kayak solo. We want all of our participants to feel as safe as possible on the water, which is why events are conducted on calm, flat water such as protected harbors and marinas along the coast, along with bays, lagoons, and inland lakes. We want all trips to be as inclusive as possible and plan launch locations close to kayak concessions for participant friends and family whenever possible.
