Mission Statement

To preserve and perpetuate the music, and playing of, the hammered and fretted dulcimers and their international relatives

Description

An organization devoted to traditional music, focusing on hammered and fretted dulcimers. (The hammered dulcimer is a trapezoidal, stringed instrument constructed of wood and played by striking its strings with wood hammers. The fretted dulcimer is a three-stringed wood instrument held on the player's lap, and plucked or strummed with the right hand as the left hand plays notes or chords on the fingerboard.)

Southern California Dulcimer Heritage hosts a variety of events during the year involving people of all ages. The largest event of the year is the annual Harvest Festival of Dulcimers, featuring workshops, concerts, educational opportunities, and vendors. The Festival also features an "Other Instruments" learning track. In the past, that track has included fiddle, tin whistle, banjo, Celtic singing, guitar, and ukulele.
