Mission Statement

Our mission is helping pets and their families through medical crises. We do this by providing financial support to low income families and offering comfort to pet families in need. Our vision is a world where financial hardship does not cause the loss of any family pet.

Description

Using established criteria, BirchBark Foundation provides financial grants to animal owners who are unable to partially or fully cover the cost of their pet’s emergency or critical care. BirchBark's financial aid program is currently limited to residents of Monterey and Santa Cruz counties in California.

In today’s world many people are experiencing economic challenges. There are many issues that influence decisions we make for our pets. They usually fall into the following categories: emotional, historical, spiritual, medical and financial. When the unexpected cost of treatment to save a loving pet’s life is more than someone can afford, they often have little choice but to consider 'economic euthanasia,’ or to surrender their family pet for adoption. BirchBark Foundation has been created to address this heartbreak and help soften the financial burden.

BirchBark Foundation is the first of its kind in Central Coast region. While there are wonderful animal aid groups in both Monterey and Santa Cruz, there are no other organizations that are singularly dedicated to saving the lives of pets that are already in loving homes, but whose families cannot pay for all or part of the care they need to survive. Our goal is to keep pets with their families-it’s the least we can do for the unconditional love and companionship they give so freely.
