Mission Statement

To educate, empower & equip children, youth, young adults, and adults with the authority and power to overcome the challenges of Sickle Cell Disease. To educate youth and young adults who are dealing with the physical and psychological complications of Sickle Cell Disease. To provide self-assurance, disease management and the ability to overcome obstacles and to boldly walk towards their purpose & destiny.

The need of Public Awareness for Sickle Cell Disease is so urgently clear: without the serious jointed effort of education and support for those affected with SCD, those affected have no real chance of living a long and healthy life. The impact will mitigate the challenges to truly "Live by Design, and not by Diagnosis". By educating, empowering, and equipping those individuals with Sickle Cell Disease to take charge of the disease. The program also provide education on dealing with the physical, psychological, mental, social, economical, health care, and pain management barriers of Sickle Cell Disease.

Would you recommend Sickle Cell Foundation of Orange County?

When I offered to volunteer, my help was accepted without hesitation. Star immediately launched into a host of ways my helping hands could be put to use. Every so often you have the opportunity meet a person who is passionate and committed to not only a goal, but the moral principles that support their desire. Star Simmons is that kind of a leader. She founded this organization because of her personal experiences with Sickle Cell Disease. And while some will only view her devotion to the empowerment of youth burden by this disease as laudable, she has impressed me as being a transformational leader.
