Mission Statement
Harvest Texarkana Regional Food Bank works to eliminate hunger in Southwest Arkansas and Northeast Texas through Food Distribution and Education.
Description
Since 1989, Harvest Texarkana has been helping feed the needy in our community through Food Rescue. The program collects excess, edible food from area bakeries, grocery stores, restaurants and other food providers. The food collected would otherwise be discarded.
In 2005, Harvest Texarkana expanded into Food Banking and now serves as a warehouse and distribution center for over 100 hunger relief organizations in 10 counties across southwest Arkansas and northeast Texas. In 2010, over 50,000 individuals were served nearly 5 million pounds of food through this program.
Harvest Texarkana also operates a backpack program in 6 school districts. This program makes sure that the most volunerable - hungry children - do not miss meals over the weekends when they are away from school provided meals during the week.
