Where to begin? AFS has been a part of my life, and of my family, for so many years! My grandparents were a volunteer host family in the '70s and '80s, my parents have also hosted, and I was an exchange student in 2003. I have been hooked on volunteering ever since. My experiences as an exchange student and as a volunteer have shown that AFS is really about changing the world one person at a time. It has allowed me to connect with like minded people while simultaneously exposing myself to completely new ways of thinking (that's the beauty of intercultural programs!). I continue to volunteer with AFS because I believe in their mission, I'm interested in other cultures, and I want to do my part to make the world a better place.

Volunteering with AFS has given me the chance to meet other people in my community that have similar interests to me. I thought at first I wanted to volunteer to learn more about the world, other cultures, food, language, but more than that I have learned so much about who I am & my own community. I have been an AFS volunteer since 2002 and continue to meet new inspiring AFS volunteers every year. I feel it has changed the direction of my life and made me a better person for it.
