Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
We provide emergency and short-term shelter for homeless people, stranded travelers, and homeless parolees in the Barstow, CA area and surrounding unincorporated areas. We also provide free meals, clothing, showers, bread, USDA federal commodities, emergency food boxes, and job assistance services to the low-income community in Barstow, CA and surrounding unincorporated areas. We also provide Greyhound bus vouchers, gasoline vouchers, free legal services, and help with electric bills.
We were established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1989 and have continued in the same location since our inception. We are an ecumenical organization that lets our work speak for our faith. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, age, sex, or any other category.
We provide lunch to the public on Mondays-Wednesdays and Fridays. We provide dinner to the public on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. We give away free bread and pastries (donated by Vons grocery store) every day. Our Clothing Closet is open Mondays-Fridays from 9:30am-12:30pm. Showers are available every day. Our Computer Room is available on a limited basis.
Greyhound bus vouchers are given as we have funding and are only given for 1 way trips (for stranded travelers) or round-trips to court or medical appointments.
Gasoline vouchers of $10.00 each are given only once a year.
Emergency food boxes are given only once every 4 months.
