Mission Statement

This faith based organization's mission is to provide a spiritually-enriched supportive environment that will enhance the resiliency and protective factors of our communities and most importantly, our at risk youth.

Description

Positive Spirit Project (PSP) This program targets youth from 3rd-8th grades attending selected schools in the North and Northwest Region. The goals of this voluntary program are to increase school success, improve social skills, decrease truancy and increase access and use of appropriate resources within the community. Case managers work intensively with children and families to provide in-school support to students; facilitate group sessions, conduct home visits with families. Referrals usually come through the school counselors who have identified students with truancy, moderate to severe behavior problems and academic problems.

Summer Enrichment Activities The Summer Camp Program targets youth from K-5th who attend Birney, Logan and Cooke Elementary School and are within walking distance of the camp site at Second Macedonia Baptist located at 13th and Ruscomb Street in North Philadelphia. Students will engage in activities that increase their opportunities to become triumphant in their lives, such as computer classes, arts and crafts, field trips, team-building activities, drama, and music. The camp runs for seven weeks from July through August 8:30am-3pm. This program also targets youth K-5th attending Birney, Logan and CookeElementary School . The After School Program runs from 3:30pm-6pm Monday -Friday at 1301 Ruscomb St . It is designed to engage youth in an ongoing series of activities that will stress personal development, appropriate and positive peer interactions, civic responsibility and the importance, necessity and expectation of academic achievement. The children will be provided with daily programming that includes academic enrichment, socialization/skill building activities, homework assistance, group session and speakers from different agencies/affiliations. Students will also be provided with a snack.

Linkage and Referral Program The Linkage and Referral Program is a community-based, information storehouse and distribution center, which provides linkages and referrals to community residents. The Center is a repository for a wide-range of information regarding health and nutrition awareness, housing, career development, recovery resources, senior activities and city-related services in the community. Short-term case management will also be provided to families with children.
