Mission Statement

NOAA Fisheries is dedicated to protecting and preserving our nation's living marine resources through scientific research, fisheries management, enforcement, and habitat conservation.

Description

The West Coast Region of NOAA Fisheries administers fisheries programs along the coasts of Washington, Oregon and California; and in the vast inland habitats of Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho. We work to conserve, protect, and manage salmon and marine mammals under the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act, and sustainably manage West Coast fisheries as guided by the Magnuson-Stevens Fisheries Conservation Act. To achieve this mission and advance sound stewardship of these resources, we work closely with tribes, local, state and federal agencies, our stakeholders, and partners to find science-based solutions to complex ecological issues.

I worked with them to review a handbook that was in process of publication. The project POC was extremely responsive and professional, the time allotted was more than sufficient, the project was very fun, and it will hopefully be something I can use a resume builder. NOAA is a well known organization so hopefully this project has reaching effects to make some changes!

I had a great time on the trip it was full of fun and learning at the same time. The ability to put a smile on a Veterans face made the world of a difference while also giving insight into ocean conservation. I have since signed up to volunteer for the 5 remaining trips because it really is a great experience. The camaraderie shared here is incredible! An experience you can cherish forever.
