Mission Statement

The St. Louis County Police SKYWARN and RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) Programs are comprised of interested volunteers. There is no charge to participate and there are no required memberships. SKYWARN volunteers observe and report severe weather from safe locations and practice severe weather safety. RACES amateur radio volunteers are available as needed to provided necessary communications system backup services as needed to public safety, hospitals, schools, Red Cross, and similar organizations. Free training is provided in the spring and fall of each year.

Description

The St. Louis County Police SKYWARN and RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) programs are a volunteer opportunity provided by the Office of Emergency Management, St. Louis County Police Department. SKYWARN weather observers provide valuable volunteer services during periods of severe weather. RACES amateur radio volunteers provide amateur radio communications support services as needed in emergency and disaster situations.
