Mission Statement

The mission of Tanzania Education Corporation, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) public corporation, is to support select English language-based primary and secondary schools in Tanzania through fundraising and educational enrichment opportunities for students and teachers. The expected outcomes of this mission include positive community impact through student exploration and engagement with their environment, as well as individual student success.

Description

Tumaini Junior School was founded by Modest Bayo and his wife Lightness, both from the area. It began in their living room with 17 students but quickly gained a reputation for excellence under their care. Today, it has almost 900 students and over 90% of them continue on to secondary school. Tumaini consistently places at the top of the district in national exams, and we have just opened a secondary school to accommodate our graduates! The secondary school has a STEM focus and includes computer programming in its curriculum. Excepting two TEC staff members, all Tumaini teachers and staff at the school are East African and it has had a positive economic and professional impact on the community at large.
