Mission Statement

Our Mission is to provide free wholesome and fresh food to clients that are unable to maintain a constant supply of food in their household due to low or fixed income and homelessness. We do this with dignity and respect.

Description

Central Downtown Food Basket (a 501(c)3 non-profit organization) began its mission to feed the elderly and low-income in 1983. Today we are still going strong, feeding nearly 2,000 families and 1,000 seniors a month. CDFB brings in over $2,000,000 in food donations every year while maintaining a low overhead. Clients can pick up bagged groceries 4 times a month as well as USDA commodities once a month. We also provide warm clothing and hygiene products for those who need it. CDFB serves ALL ZIP CODES in the greater Sacramento area.

CDFB feeds those in need in the greater Sacramento area with " Dignity and Respect." We do this by being hands on with our distribution. Some just want a hug or shake your hand, others need someone to listen. Our volunteers pay attention to those needs while giving them the food they require. We also display our produce in a unique manner, creating a farmers market environment. We take the produce out, and display it in a style that's pleasing to the eye. We do not hand out anything we would not eat ourselves.

All of this is accomplished at St. John's Lutheran Church. Through their generosity they have allowed us to use Goethe Hall to help us in our distribution of food to the seniors, low income and homeless of Sacramento.

CDFB has a second location, Atonement Lutheran Church at 9242 Kiefer Blvd. CDFB distributes food and fresh produce on the 4th Tuesday of every month to those who need it in the Rosemont area of Sacramento.
