Description
Swift Outdoor Accessible Recreation is a 501(c)(3) service organization aimed to improve the quality of life for those that are physically challenged by offering outdoor accessible recreational programs and events.
Brian Swift, the founder of SOAR, took a tragedy and made it an opportunity. In 1979, on the day after Christmas, Brian Swift broke his neck playing a friendly game of football at the age of 17 leaving him a C6 quadriplegic, with permanent paralysis from the chest down. During rehabilitition Brian became very aware of the importance of recreation, not only to improve mobility, but to improve mental well being. Brian saw this event in his life as a challenge and an oppportunity to assit others. This life changing event developed into his personal crusade- SOAR.
