The mission of OBUGS is to build healthy communities through programs offered to children, youth, and families in a network of school and neighborhood gardens, green spaces, and farmer's markets.

Description

Oakland Based Urban Gardens, a program of LifeLong Medical Care, provides free after school and summer programs to students at four local schools: St. Patrick's and West Oakland Middle School as well as St. Martin de Porres and Lafayette Elementary Schools. Students learn to make healthy choices and are engaged in activities such as gardening, cooking, nutrition and arts and crafts. Students harvest organic produce directly from the onsite garden and learn to cook healthy meals
