Mission Statement

The Bidwell Foundation was established in order to support artists and arts institutions by sponsoring projects, programming and exhibitions that encourage creativity and innovation. The foundation takes a particular interest in bringing the work of leading photo-based artists to Northeast Ohio. The primary project of the Bidwell Foundation is the Transformer Station, an exhibition space for contemporary art established and operated by the foundation.

Description

Transformer Station is a free contemporary art space on Cleveland's near west side that opened to the public in 2013. In a unique private/public museum partnership, the Bidwell Foundation has agreed to loan the space for six months of every year to the Cleveland Museum of Art as a platform for exhibitions developed by their contemporary art curatorial staff. During the remaining six months of the each year, the Bidwell Foundation presents original exhibitions based on the photography collection of Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell. The Transformer Station facility and a major portion of their art collection is a promised gift to the the Cleveland Museum of Art.
