Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Since 1968, Sociedad Latina has been working in partnership with Latino youth to cultivate the next generation of leaders. With the support of families and the broader community, Sociedad Latina fulfills its critical mission by providing a broad array of programs that promote community leadership, civic engagement, meaningful employment, educational attainment, cultural identity and pride and the continuation of traditions.
Recently, Sociedad Latina further defined its programmatic priorities through an intense community needs assessment that included focus groups with our youth, parents, stakeholders and Board of Directors. Additionally the organization collected feedback from surveys of over 200 families throughout Mission Hill and greater Boston. The community identified several priorities: tutoring programs to help youth perform better academically as well to support them in seeking higher education, a program to help parents learn how to support and advocate for their children within the Boston Public School system, and computer literacy classes in Spanish.Sociedad Latina firmly believes that the programs we develop should reflect the needs of the community, identified by the community. In response to the community assessment, Sociedad Latina developed the Mission Enrichment After-school Program for middle school youth, the Evening Tutorial Program for high school youth, the Latinos In Leadership Action and Change Program for parents and a computer lab offering classes in Spanish. Throughout all of these programmatic changes, Sociedad Latina has remained faithful to our mission of cultivating the next generation of leaders.
Our greatest strength as an organization is the ability to connect with our constituency and to adapt to the community's changing needs. Although we are committed to remaining a Latino organization with a priority focus on Latino youth, all of our programs will now be open to youth and families of all ethnicities and races -- a testament to the growing ethnic diversity of Roxbury and greater Boston.
