ArtsCorpsDetroit is a community engagement initiative of the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, which provides arts-based programs to metro Detroit residents through workshops and community projects. Programming encourages the personal and social growth of participants, helping to enrich their lives and revitalize their communities.
ArtsCorpsDetroit uses six strategies to accomplish its mission:
Workshops - Mobile Art Workshops are brought to community sites in Detroit and are conducted on the campus of Wayne State University (WSU).
Exhibitions - Artworks created during workshops are professionally exhibited in a WSU gallery, or a collaborating Detroit gallery.
Projects - Community proposals submitted for arts-based projects are selected for implementation.
Service-Learning - ArtsCorpsDetroit collaborates with WSU to offer WSU students a variety of credit-generating, service-learning courses that combine classroom experience with community-based learning in the arts.
Volunteerism - Community volunteers assist with public programs and projects.
Research - Data are collected to analyze volunteer and service-learning impact on community constituents and students.
