Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
ATD Fourth World works to overcome the injustices of persistent poverty and social exclusion by bringing together people from all walks of life, learning from people who face poverty every day, and running family and community projects. Persistent poverty can be eradicated. It can be done by working in partnership with people living in poverty. We work on the grassroots level in over 34 countries and in six areas of the US, and maintain consultative status at the United Nations, UNICEF, UNESCO, and the ILO. "Wherever men and women are condemned to live in poverty, human rights are violated. To come together to ensure that these rights be respected is our solemn duty." - Joseph Wresinski
The roots of ATD (All Together in Dignity) Fourth World ATD Fourth World Movement go back to the emergency housing camps built outside Paris in the 1950s. ATD Fourth World has grown and today has grassroots teams in 34 countries around the world, holding general consultative status at the United Nations, UNICEF, UNESCO, and the ILO, in addition to participatory status at the Council of Europe. ATD Fourth World also maintains a permanent delegation to the European Union. We are a network of full-time volunteers, supporters, allies, and members from all backgrounds, income levels, ages, genders, races and nationalities. Wherever we run programs, we have a mixture of all of these different players. Our programs range from Street Library, where we bring books and arts and crafts to children in their home communities, to Merging Knowledge seminars where adults who are experiencing extreme poverty can discuss current issues such as housing and health care with the professionals like lawyers and policy makers to make their voices heard.
