Mission Statement

Grand County Council on Aging is a non-profit organization established to assist Grand County seniors 60 and older and adults with disabilities maintain their independence in the beautiful county they love. GCCA offers transportation services, recreation opportunities, support groups, senior fitness and educational classes.

Description

We all enjoy living a life where we can make our own choices and do what we want, when we want. As we grow older that becomes increasingly difficult due to physical, mental and/or financial challenges. It is especially difficult when one lives in a rural community with much fewer services than those available in urban areas.

Grand County Council on Aging (GCCA) was established as a non-profit organization in 1972 to meet the needs of vulnerable area seniors and disabled adults and assist them in maintaining their independence. Its goal is to determine the needs of the aging in rural Grand County (GC), and to make every effort to meet those needs through appropriate action; provide access to healthcare, encourage members’ participation insocial, recreational, and educational activities; establish and carry on an outreach program for the aging; and develop coordination and cooperation among all local, state, and federal agencies involved in working with the aging population.

GCCA’s most important service is providing transportation as there is no public transportation in Grand County. GCCA transports people to local grocery stores, doctors, dentists and mental health services offices within and outside of the county and helps them live independently in the county they love.
