Mission Statement

The Dream Center is dedicated to providing resources and opportunity to low-income, homeless, and under-served individuals and families in the Charleston, North Charleston area move towards self-sufficiency through counseling, education, and training.

Description

The Dream Center is modeled after the Los Angeles Dream Center, which has proven to reduce crime in the community by 70%. To give significance to this percentage here are some disturbing statistics regarding North Charleston.

  • Murders are 2 times the national average
  • Rapes are 3 times the national average
  • Robberies are 5 times the national average
  • Burglaries are 2 times the national average

The Dream Center's goal is to break this cycle and offer programs ranging from mentoring programs for adults and families to after school programs for kids.

By providing a "hands-up" as opposed to a "hand-out" the Dream Center will make a long-term change in the lives of those who are serious about improving their situation.
