Mission Statement

__Young at Heart is a non-profit fund raising arm of Douglas County Senior Center and sponsor of programs for seniors. Funds are raised to sponsor programs and projects approved by the YAH Board of Trustees that benefit seniors of Douglas County. We sponsor many activities, Mother/Father’s Day Celebration, Bingo M-W-F, Bingo once a month for the entire community, Ice Cream Social/Bingo free to members, Birthday lunch for 90+ as well as 100+, Home Bound Senior Christmas Bags, which this year has grown to more than 160, Christmas Lunch for all YAH members, Christmas Craft Fair/Raffle, bridge/knitting/table tennis clubs for all seniors to enjoy and their "golden" years. We also provide funds to the Douglas County Senior Center when the budget they have will not accommodate the needs of the center.

Description

The Young at Heart Senior Citizen Club was formed in September of 1975 as a group of seniors getting together to stay active and independent in Douglas County. In 2014-2015 we saw an increase of support from seniors and community who moved our membership record from 500 to 700 and still growing. We are the fund raising arm of Douglas County Senior Services and seek innovative ways to support programs and services which enhance the quality of life of seniors. We are an organization completely run by volunteers and provide over 100 volunteers to the Senior Center to keep costs low and maintain services to a growing number of seniors moving to Douglas County. Our organization depends on fundraising to meet these objectives which is everything goes right back to the seniors who are frail, low income and desire to have an enjoyable quality of life.
