Kitchen Aide

The Kitchen Aide assists in the preparation of meals in a fast-paced environment and in the cleanliness of the equipment and work area. Duties include washing, peeling, chopping, and cutting foodstuffs under the Kitchen Area Supervisor; preparing and packaging cold and hot packs for delivery; assembling frozen meal packages; and adhering to health and safety/FDA guidelines. Volunteers should have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and twist; ability to stand prolonged periods of time; and ability to lift ten pounds or more. Shifts are usually 8 am to noon. Volunteers are needed Mondays - Fridays. Must pass a background check and attend a brief orientation prior to volunteering.

Talking Tech Mentor

Flexible Schedule | Virtual Opportunity

Overview: The Talking Tech Mentor is a remote opportunity that teaches technology to homebound senior/disabled St. Vincent Meals On Wheels clients based on needs and preferences. All classes and training will be conducted via telephone or video. Some of the classes involve basic computer training and online activities for education and socialization. Impact: You can make a difference in the lives of 1900+ homebound seniors and vulnerable residents across Los Angeles. Grow your skills and advocate for those in need. Volunteer Roles and Responsibilites: The Talking Tech Mentor teaches technology-related topics via telephone or video, will effectively communicate the various topics of interest in a clear and intelligible manner, and will anticipate the learning needs of clients. Requirements: The volunteer will be an effective communicator who will possess active listening skills and will anticipate the needs of each individual client Volunteers must be age 15+ and pass a background check Bilingual in Spanish, Korean, or Chinese is a plus Scheduling if flexible (arranged between the client and the volunteer). A hybrid model of teaching is allowed with the approval of the program's coordinator. The minimum time commitment is three months

Social Call/Telephone Buddy Volunteer

Overview: The Social Caller is a remote opportunity that provides invaluable social connections for St. Vincent Meals On Wheels clients who lack support and may be at an elevated risk of loneliness and social isolation. The ideal volunteer will have active listening and effective communication skills. Bilingual in Spanish, Korean, or Chinese is a plus. Impact: Regular social conversations make a positive difference in the lives of participants and volunteers. You can make a difference in the lives of 1900+ homebound seniors and vulnerable residents across Los Angeles. Vounteer Roles & Responsibilities: The volunteer must have the ability to discuss various topics of interest. Must communicate clearly and patiently, and have the ability to draw out a shy or reluctant participant. Must submit logs of client calls on a monthly basis Requirements: The volunteer must possess effective communication skills. In addition, volunteers must be 18+ years of age, pass a background check, and complete a Social Call Self-Training with staff consultation if needed. The minimum time commitment is three months. The scheduling of calls is flexible (arranged between the client and the volunteer).

Meal Delivery Volunteers

St. Vincent Meals on Wheels is seeking meal delivery Volunteers to provide meal delivery service to the client's residence. The meal delivery volunteer provides a one on one interaction while delivering a hot nutritious meal to the client. The meal delivery volunteer works with a desiginated driver as a team. The duties include: preparation for the route, loading of the vehicle, delivery of meals to the client, and unloading of vehicle. Qualifications include interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse staff and volunteers in a team environment and attention to detail. The performance of duties involves working outdoors in varied weather conditions and the physical abilities to climb stairs and lift/move objects of ten pounds or more.

Staff and volunteers at St.Vincent Meals on Wheels are so dedicated and kind. Delivering warm meals to homebound seniors is such a great way to feel good about doing something good! It's only 3-4 hours to do a route and the seniors I met are truly grateful for their meals and love seeing someone at their door on a daily basis.
