Mission Statement

TPT was founded in 2001 by Executive Director Peter Straus with the expressed mission to provide intervention programs for at-risk youth from low-income areas of Los Angeles that combine academics, athletics, leadership training and the arts in order to prepare them for the future and allow them to reach their full potential.

Description

The four cornerstones of the Team Prime Time after-school program are: innovative academic intervention - including homework completion, literacy education, Individual Tutorial Plans and standardized test preparation athletic programs - both leagues and alternative sports leadership skill development - general education students learn to coach and mentor students with special needs and all participate together in a full-inclusion sports program the arts - visual arts, media arts, dance, performing arts and more The TPT after-school program currently serves over 1,200 students at four Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) campuses: Webster Middle School, Palms Middle School, Emerson Middle School and Westside Leadership Magnet, a K-8 school. Students who attend these schools are primarily bussed in from inner-city locations; such as, Crenshaw, Inglewood, East Los Angeles and South Los Angeles. Each site is a Title I school, meaning at least 40 percent of the students qualify for Federal Aid. Outreach is provided at these schools every day school is in session beginning when the school day ends until 6 p.m.
