Mission Statement

U T Hospice exists to provide symptom control and support for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so they may live as fully and as comfortably as possible.

U T Hospice recognizes dying as a part of the normal process of living and focuses on maintaining the quality of remaining life.

U T Hospice exists in the hope and belief that, through appropriate care and support of a caring community sensitive to their needs, terminally ill patients and their families may be free to attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death that is satisfactory to them.

Description

Volunteers work in conjunction with other members of the hospice team and under the supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator who is a support/advocate person and a resource for the volunteer. We view the volunteer's most important role to be that of a loving, supportive friend. Volunteers become an essential part of the patient's emotional, social, and physical well being during the last stage of life. You can become a friend and valuable resource to each patient and family member Volunteers can help hospice raise funds, visit patients in their home, assis in the hospice office, become part of the hospice grief support program, educate the public, listen, talk, or read to the patients, perpare meals, be a friend.
