Mission Statement

The SMGA’s mission is to provide rehabilitative golf programs, experiences, and family inclusive golf opportunities for post 9/11 wounded war veterans in an effort to improve the quality of life for these American heroes. Eligible veterans and service members include those wounded or injured in post 9/11 military operations, including those with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Description

The SMGA promotes a family-inclusive golf instruction environment and encourages clinic participation of wounded service members and their families, at no cost to them. As of December 2015, the SMGA has served over 2,000 members throughout the country, and has provided 1,500 individually-fitted golf clubs.

The SMGA has 9 chapter locations across the US:
Olney, MD
Ft Drum, NY
Ft Eustis, VA
Boston, MA
Ft Bragg, NC
Camp Lejeune, NC
Kaneohe Bay, HI
North Texas
Dayton, OH

SMGA Warrior Golf Clinics are held at each chapter location. They consist of a series of 8 instructions (one per week for eight weeks), led by a PGA Class A Professional. The clinic program includes instructions on putting, chipping, full swing, golf etiquette, etc. The social interaction and networking opportunities provide a vehicle for integration back into the civilian community. In 2015, through the Warrior Golf Clinic Series, the SMGA issued 200 sets of custom-fitted golf clubs to eligible post 9/11 wounded and injured veterans, conducted more than 100 golf clinics, provided golf access that totaled over 1,000 rounds of free golf and extended the SMGA’s reach to 30 states.
