Volunteer Drivers for ITNMemphis are the living, breathing, and driving connections that enable Memphis seniors to maintain their dignity and independence as they choose or are no longer able to drive themselves. Volunteer Drivers provide reliable, courteous transportation for seniors or anyone with a visual impairment to their Medical appointments, church and worship services, work or volunteer commitments, community and social activities, physical therapy and exercise classes, and daily necessities like grocery shopping or a trip to the bank. Volunteer Drivers are, in sum, a lifeline between seniors and their consistent and continued connection to the family, friends, and communities that they might be unable to otherwise reach. Volunteering to drive for ITNMemphis is a simple way to give as much - or as little - of your time as fits your schedule. Volunteer for one morning or afternoon per week, every Thursday, each morning for an hour before work, or only on weekends, etc. - the schedule is as flexible as you make it. ITNMemphis will provide training and arrange driving assignments around your schedule. One Volunteer Driver has said that "transporting a rider in your own personal vehicle is like bringing them into your living room" on the trip. Volunteer Drivers also earn credits based on mileage driven that can be stored in a personal account for later use, donated to a relative, or donated to the ITN Road Scholarship Program for area seniors with limited income. Volunteering to drive for ITNMemphis provides an invaluable lifeline for area seniors to stay connected with their communities and a priceless opportunity for both those seniors and their drivers to interact with real, interesting people throughout the Memphis area. The immediate benefits of volunteering are countless, but lifelong memories are truly timeless. OUR COVID RESPONSE: Please be advised that we encourage our drivers to consider ITN’s mission to provide courteous, reliable transportation to some of the most vulnerable members of our society as it continues at a time when those individuals may need it most. In light of recent and ongoing developments concerning the COVID-19 virus, commonly known as "coronavirus," ITNMemphis has instituted a COVID Policy and Procedure to protect all of our riders and many drivers are considered high-risk. Under this consideration, all volunteers will be trained on how to effectively and safely provide service to our clients. All Drivers / Volunteers must agree to go through this training before volunteer service can commence.
