Mission Statement
The Akron Fire Company is a 100% volunteer organization providing fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical response to the Village of Akron and the Town of Newstead. We also provide both automatic and on-demand mutual aid services to our neighboring Towns and fire companies.
Description
The Akron Fire Company, formed in 1923 from three existing companies. Their proud heritage dates back to the formation of the Village of Akron, in 1849. One of the first duties of the first Village Trustees was to make arrangements for supplying fire protection to the newly-formed Village. They organized an election for two positions called "Fire Wardens". It was the duty of the Wardens to make sure that all residents obeyed laws regarding fire safety.
From that time the AFC has eveloved into one of the most respected fire companies in the area. We respond to approximately 500 incidents a year, and provide assistance to many community events including 4th of July and New Years Eve celebrations (fireworks), School athletic events, Charity races, and a major soccer tournament with over 155 teams annually.
