Description

Located on Guardian Oak Farm near Moberly, MO, Guardian Oak Growth by Giving Association (GO) is a 501c3 with a mission to serve the healing and sanctuary needs of at-risk and under-served animals and people through therapeutic, creative, and recreational activities. Some of our main programs include equine assisted experiential activities, community garden, art studio, community cat/TNR program, and the horse rescue operation.

Working to combine the needs of rescued animals with needs of humans, and utilizing rehabilitation, re-homing, and riding as a way to teach benefits of volunteerism, and healthful benefits of riding, Guardian Oak works to reduce the number of abandoned, neglected animals and reduce the number of horses being needlessly sent to slaughter.

I've been volunteering with GO for several years now, both as a virtual volunteer and in person. The farm isn't picture perfect but it is incredibly peaceful to go out and be among the herd of horses there. While some are adopted out to new homes, there are plenty of sanctuary horses and those who are going to take longer to be ready for a new home, And while I'm 500 miles away now, I am glad to still be involved, and super jealous that they can now host live-in volunteers to help with longer-term goals. If you're like the younger, more flexible me, you'll love the opportunity to live on a horse farm and "play" with horses to your hearts content. There's so much to do at GO, many dreams and goals, and I'd definitely recommend it to someone who feels strongly about the mission, loves animals, and is ready to get their hands dirty.
