Mission Statement
The McCune Collection provides public service in the Arts of the Book. We seek to actively involve a diverse public in all our programs; present programs and exhibits of high quality to our audiences; provide innovative educational programming; advance the Collection with relevant acquisitions; and enrich the culture of our community.
Description
The McCune Collection in the JFK Library building houses a superb assortment of rare and unique books, printing equipment, and binding tools left as a bequest to the City of Vallejo by longtime resident and renown physician, Dr. Donovan J. McCune. The particular strengths of this Collection are in: fine printing and binding, Californiana, and Latin & Greek texts, including several incunabula items. We also have a fine collection of superb prints and photographs.
The McCune Room is OPEN to the public on the FIRST & THIRD Tuesday of each month, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The public may also visit during Vallejo's monthly 2nd Friday Artwalk from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Tours may be arranged by appointment. To do so, please contact us by phone at (707) 674-4082 or by e-mail at mccunecollection@mail.com - our volunteer docents are better able to accommodate tour requests which are received several days in advance.
