Mission Statement
In medieval music, a lacuna is a gap or missing section in a particular manuscript. Under the artistic direction of Sven Edward Olbash, Lacuna Arts bridges the gap between large community choirs and small professional choruses in the San Francisco Bay Area. We believe that the process of rehearsing serious music is fun, and that performing at a high level of excellence is its own reward.
Description
This a cappella chorus of 24-32 balanced voices is divided into two SATB choirs to tackle some of the more demanding 8-part choral literature. Repertoire for the 2015-2016 season includes Rheinberger’s Mass in E-flat for double choir and modern works by Pärt, Górecki, Howells, and Persichetti.
Our smaller chamber group Ensemble encourages individual responsibility with as few as 1-2 voices per part. Repertoire for the 2015-2016 season includes Victoria’s Missa Ave maris stella, Poulenc motets, and secular part songs by Herzogenberg, Britten, Finzi, and Schoenberg.
