Mission Statement
We are committed to providing unique social services in Los Angeles. Part of our devotion is toward individual adults struggling with addiction. In partnership with private companies and other non-profit efforts in Los Angeles, Priorities Center's work currently focuses on community engagement and education about homelessness.
Description
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & HOUSING
Priorities was initially founded in 2013 Christina Vescovo to provide personal support and housing to individuals graduating from treatment centers. In 2014, they began operating in Los Angeles under a similar model and organized a series of hikes called Climb! in memory of Josh Finley who died climbing in Malibu following his success overcoming addiction at SHIELDS.
In 2015, Priority partnered with Steve Heflin who re-purposed the Hub Motel in Compton, a property shut down and abandoned due to criminal activity. Steve took on the task of making the Hub Motel a residential and community development haven.
EDUCATION
In 2016, Priority joined with Dhat Stone Academy, the City of Compton, and the Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce to offer We Are Code, a program with a mission to create educational competitions for at-risk youth so they may someday join and compete with top ranking tech leaders to become industry experts and successful entrepreneurs. The mission is the first of its kind to feature Hackathons and a TechLab serving Compton.
