Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
We are committed to providing unique residential environments & social services in Los Angeles. Part of our devotion is toward individual adults and we also offer positive role models and support needed for children whose parents are in life transition. In partnership with private companies and other non-profit efforts in Los Angeles, Priority's work currently focuses on community engagement, education, and real estate.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & HOUSING
Priority was initially founded in 2013 by Father Tom Matt and Christina Vescovo to provide personal support and housing to individuals graduating from treatment centers. In 2014, Priority began operating in Los Angeles under a similar model and organized a series of hikes called Climb! in memory of Josh Finley who died climbing in Malibu following his success overcoming addiction at SHIELDS.
In 2015, Priority partnered with Steve Heflin who re-purposed the Hub Motel in Compton, a property shut down and abandoned due to criminal activity. Steve took on the task of making the Hub Motel a residential and community development haven.
In 2016, Priority joined with Dhat Stone Academy, the City of Compton, and the Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce to offer We Are Code, a program with a mission to create educational competitions for at-risk youth so they may someday join and compete with top ranking tech leaders to become industry experts and successful entrepreneurs. The mission is the first of its kind to feature Hackathons and a TechLab serving Compton. Dr. Tariq Sawandi, an engineer in Los Angeles, heads the We Are Code program. Dhat Stone Academy held the first Hackathon at Priority. Future Hackathons shall be held at new Compton Community Center and the ongoing courses will be held at SHIELDS.
