Mission Statement

Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse provides community leadership and action that empowers and advances the roles, rights, and well-being of women, children, and men. The staff and volunteer advocates commit to ending sexual violence and child abuse through prevention, education, and community development. The Center promotes emotional and physical healing for persons victimized by sexual assault and child abuse.

Description

Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse provides services for victims of sexual assault and child sexual and physical abuse, as well as their families and support networks. These services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, 24-hour emergency room response, victim advocacy, specialized medical intervention, forensic exams, pediatric assessments, legal advocacy, support groups, community education and sexual assault training to the community and other professionals. The staff currently consists of a director, 4 staff nurses, and 9 staff advocates. Providence Intervention Center currently has 10 on-call Forensic Nurse Examiners and 16 volunteer advocates. Volunteers serve as victim advocates by responding to the Emergency room to support victims of sexual assault and/or child abuse and by covering the 24-hour crisis hotline. We require that volunteers attend a 40 hour initial training offered twice a year, and then attend a regular evening meeting once a month for on-going training. Volunteers cover two 12-hour shifts each month, and must commit to Providence Intervention Center for a year of service.
