Mission Statement

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.

The Society is a recognized leader in cancer-related activities especially in the areas of public education and scientific reserch. To raise awarenes and motivate adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors, the American Cancer Socieety's educational commitment extends to hosing forums, sponsoring media campaigns, administering peer-to-peer programs, and collaborating with diverse community outreach organizations.

ACS provides a comprehensive selection of pateints serivces including: Cancer Survivors Network, Reach to Recovery, I Can Cope, Man to Man, Look Good...Feel Better, Hope lodge, as well as a comprehensive website and a 800# staffed by live specialists 24 hours a day.

ACS is the largest private, nonprofit source of cancer research funds in the U.S., the Society has dedicated more than $3 billion since the inception of the organization.
