Mission Statement

Our mission: To unite and inspire the community to improve people's lives and strengthen the neighborhoods in Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley.

Description

We work with community partners to create lasting, positive change. By addressing basic needs like housing, job training and health insurance for children, we strive to create social and economic opportunity, especially for children and families with multiple obstacles throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley.

We are one of 1,400 locally governed and independently operated United Ways, and we support an infrastructure of human service agencies whose work aligns with our goals. Each marshals the collective resources of the community, philanthropic and volunteer, and invests them to help individuals in crisis or at risk, become secure and self-sufficient. Together we lead the nation in creating positive impact by bringing communities together to focus on the most important needs of the community.

We apply our full resources -- funding, public policy, volunteers and education -- across four crucial areas; children, youth, employment and housing.

Founded in 1935, United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley (UWMBMV) is a local, non-profit human service agency. Our primary focus is to evaluate local human service needs and raise funding to support the organizations which have proven their ability to address those needs. We provide people and businesses, that want to invest in their community, with a reliable and cost effective way to do so.
