Clients are only available for interview when the Food Pantry is open: Tues/Thurs from 10-11:45am. Loop Ministries needs someone who likes to talk with ("interview") people. The interviewer would chat with one of our Food Pantry visitors, and then write an interesting story that will be used in various ways: in grant applications and reports, on social media or our website, in donor thank you letters, etc. The story should help readers understand what brings people to Loop Ministries for food since the onset of the Corona virus pandemic, and how their circumstances are helped/improved by the services we provide. Our hope is that the stories will continue to educate our donors and inspire them to give time, foods or money to support Loop Ministries' efforts to help those who are hungry in the Rochester community. The goal would be for you to submit one story each month (though we will gratefully receive many more if you are a prolific writer!)

On the last Saturday evening of every month, at Incarnate Word Lutheran Church, a hot boxed dinner is given to those in need. Once a month Loop Ministries collaborates with Incarnate Word Lutheran Church volunteers to provide a hot meal for the first 40 people who attend. Help is needed to cook food, pack take-out meal boxes, distribute the meals, and help with cleanup. Dinner is not provided for volunteers.

The Loop Ministries Food Pantry supplies needed food to those living around the Inner Loop of Rochester. It is open 10 AM til Noon, Tuesdays and Thursdays. With setup and take down, allow an extra 30 minutes both before and after pantry hours. The food pantry is set up in a vestibule of Incarnate Word Lutheran Church located at 597 East Avenue. Parking is provided. A volunteer is needed to check our updated client lists in an Access database to determine if client has already visited during the current month and to determine family size. Basic client info is then recorded on a daily sheet. The database lists clients by name along with family size. New clients are asked to fill out a registration sheet and the rules for pantry use are discussed. Total number of bags to be given is passed along to other volunteers who collect and distribute the bags along with any fresh or frozen items available for distribution that day. The actual filling of nutritional bags containing a required nutritional mix of items is done by Heritage Christian Services. Each family gets a bag of staples for each household member plus one bag of extra items per family. When available, additional fresh, refrigerated or frozen items are offered. Educational materials are also often offered. Anywhere from 10 to 30 clients can arrive during pantry hours. It can be VERY busy or VERY slow BUT the need for the food is real, so the mission is important. You can use downtime to visit with the other volunteers. Volunteers choose to work on either the Tuesday or Thursday team and can sign up for as many days per month as desired. Our clients are very grateful, making it a very rewarding experience. Getting to know the other pantry volunteers and the Heritage counselors and their charges is also a positive. Try it out and see how you like it! THANKS!

Virtual Opportunity
We need several people to research grant opportunities and research/compose answers to grant application questions. Approved grant applications will provide funds to support Loop Ministries' mission to help those in the city of Rochester who are in need of food. This need has grown throughout the Covid pandemic and remains high. Our director has historically done this and can provide general guidance. Previous experience would be helpful, along with the time needed to follow through on any projects agreed to.
