Description
As much as $25 million in federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is left unclaimed each year in Salt Lake & Tooele counties -- money that is needed by thousands of Utah families who are stretched beyond their financial limits. EITC is the federal government's largest anti-poverty initiative. To receive EITC a tax return can be filed for FREE by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which is better than paid preparers who often charge as much as $200 to prepare a basic EITC return. Many times the EITC is not claimed by low to moderate income households who prepare their own returns because the family/individual did not understand that they qualify. This same population often is unaware of other benefits, resources and tools that are available to them to increase their financial fitness and build assets for the future.
