Mission Statement
Our mission is to organize communities to advocate for land-use decisions that create good jobs and healthy communities; to build strong coalitions of leaders from diverse constituencies (labor, community, environmental, interfaith) to promote prevailing wages, local hiring systems that target low income residents, the use of apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs for workers, and the interests of families and communities; to invest public resources for economically sound projects that provide a return to the community; and to change government priorities from market-driven development to "community driven" development that alleviates poverty and grows healthy neighborhoods.
Description
Established in 2004, Georgia Stand-Up is an alliance of labor organizations, community and faith organizations that promotes smart growth strategies and economic justice through community-based research, education, advocacy, and empower community members and leaders to create and manifest the vision for their communities. Georgia Stand-UP stands for fair wages and health benefits; the rights of workers to strengthen their capacity through organizing; quality jobs for low income workers; social and economic "justice for all". Georgia Stand-Up acts as a "think and act tank" for communities in the Metro-Atlanta and throughout the Georgia region, addressing the growing need of low-wage communities in urban and non-urban areas; to build civic capacity and leadership from within their own neighborhoods, schools and religious institutions.
