The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Our mission is to bring ease and comfort through song to those at the thresholds of living and dying.
Our group is the Washington, DC chapter of the national Threshold Choir organization (www.thresholdchoir.org). When invited, we sing in groups of 2-4 at the bedside of people in Washington DC, or Northern Virginia who are near death. Our goal is to bring ease and comfort to patients, family members and other caregivers. We rehearse on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month at 7 pm in Washington, DC. We usually sing at the bedside during the day on weekdays or weekends. Our choir welcomes new singers to join us. We don't have auditions, but we do ask that you have a pleasant voice and can carry a tune, and that you can hold your part in multiple-part singing. We ask that new members before going to the bedside with us, attend rehearsals for a while to learn our core songs as well as attend a training to learn the tender needs of families going through end of life with a loved one.
