Mission Statement

The Ely Winter Festival is a 501(c)3 corporation organized exclusively for the purpose of developing, coordinating and promoting a winter festival composed of many events, including outdoor recreational and competitive activities, snow sculpture demonstrations and contests, outdoor educational demonstrations and seminars; activities geared to all ages and abilities, including arts and crafts, sled dog rides, Nordic Ski races and recreation, music and entertainment, food and fun. The Ely Winter Festival seeks to promote healthy outdoor activities in the winter season and to increase appreciation for the unique Ely Are wilderness environment and to attract visitors, tourists and participants by stimulating sponsorship of winter recreational and educational activities. The Ely Winter Festival and International Snow Sculpting Symposium operates without profit and is non-political and non-sectarian.

Description

The Ely Winter Festival is held within the first two weeks of February. Its main attraction is the International Snow Sculpting Symposium which attracts snow sculptors from around the country and the world to create amazing sculptures from the ever-changing medium of snow. Being a symposium, not a competition, allows the sculptors to share a camaraderie that is enjoyable and educational. There is an additional amateur snow sculpting contest in which the winner is allowed to participate in the main Symposium. The Ely ArtWalk, in which merchant windows throughout the City display local art, is held simultaneous to the Festival. During the Festival there are arts events, entertainment, special food events, sporting events and entertainment for the whole family.
