Mission Statement

The Blue Door Artist Association is a non-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to bringing the arts to local communities throughout Westchester that are currently underserved by art programs and exhibitions. We do this through exhibitions, public art projects, workshops, mentoring programs and special events.

The Blue Door Artist Associationwas founded in the fall of 2002. Its founders were former staff members of Art on Main Street/Yonkers, a community-based arts organization that had an important presence on Main Street, Yonkers for more than seven years.

The mission of The Blue Door is to bring the arts to local communities throughout the Westchester, especially those that are ethnically diverse and underserved by cultural organizations. Through exhibitions displayed in local businesses, libraries and schools as well as public art projects, workshops and special events, we aim to offer a cultural presence as a forum to engage the community with the arts.

The Blue Door has been a 'gallery without walls.' We have had numerous exhibitions throughout downtown Yonkers in venues such as the Yonkers Riverfront Library, Philipse Manor Hall, The Downtown/Waterfront BID, Beczak Environmental Education Center as well as in stores and lobbies. We have collaborated with other community based organizations such as the Yonkers Historical Society and Beczak to put together exhibitions. We will be finally opening our own gallery in Downtown Yonkers in 2009.

The Blue Door has initiated a number of public art projects. These have included the decoration of outdoor planters and receptacles, the creation of a large outdoor mural and the installation of outdoor sculptures around Yonkers City Hall.
