Formed in 1948 by a consortium of American educational and cultural institutions to "support research on all aspects of Egyptian history and culture, foster broader knowledge among the general public, and strengthen American-Egyptian cultural ties", ARCE addresses its mission to support research and its dissemination through the implementation of its fellowship, publications, library, education, public outreach (U.S. and Egypt), training and conservation programs.
