Bridges to Independence is Northern Virginia’s leading provider of services for homeless women/families and those at risk. We offer a continuum of aid and support for all family members, helping them attain stability and move forward into self-sufficiency. A private, nonprofit organization, b2i has been working with and for homeless families since 1985, when we were founded as the Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless.
Core programs, along with integrated strategies, are designed to help families secure permanent housing, increase household income, pay down debt, reestablish credit, manage household budgets, save money, and become better parents, including:
* Sullivan House
An apartment-like family shelter with 10 units (50 beds) where clients reside for three to five months.
A scattered-site transitional housing program serving both the Alexandria and Arlington communities.
* Micro-business initiative
The purpose is to assist homeless and other at-risk families augment household incomes by capitalizing on their entrepreneurial talents.
* Youth Development
Homeless children represent 60% of the clients served by AACH. Our children’s programs were established as a way of addressing the developmental needs of younger clients.
