Mission Statement

The Friends of the Thomas Jefferson Library is organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. The purpose of this organization shall be: Sec. 1. to make the Thomas Jefferson Library and its services known to all segments of the community and to encourage its use as a cultural and community center; Sec. 2. to attract positive public attention to the Fairfax County library system, services, facilities and needs; Sec. 3. to furnish volunteer help to the library staff when needed; Sec. 4. to stimulate gifts, endowments and bequests to the Thomas Jefferson Library and the Fairfax County library system; Sec. 5. to make the special needs of the Thomas Jefferson Library known to the Fairfax County Library Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and to advocate such needs when authorized by the Board of Directors; and, Sec. 6. to arrange programs of general interest to the community, using the facilities of the Thomas Jefferson Library.

Description

The Friends of the Thomas Jefferson Library support the Thomas Jefferson Library and its services through the sale of donated materials at our ongoing and special book sales. All proceeds fund TJ Library’s programs and supplies such as these: Storytime easel, furniture for teen area, chess sets, posters, puppet shows & nature programs, and supplies for the winter & summer reading programs

General volunteer duties involve going through donated materials, organizing them in our storage closet according to major subjects such as fiction, kids,.., restocking our ongoing booksale shelves, and/or manning our special Saturday booksales. Volunteering with us is really easy as you can choose when to go in and for how long. You fit your volunteering with your schedule.
