Stories Alive is a 501(c)3 non-profit literacy and performing arts program that gives children a voice in their community. Stories Alive assists children in the crafting of original stories, publishes young authors, and transforms their words into a high quality artistic performance. We believe that children have the ability and desire to write compelling, well-crafted, and imaginative stories. When children realize their words and ideas have meaning and power beyond themselves, beyond a grade, and beyond the classroom, they seize the opportunity to engage in a collaborative process of bringing their original stories to life.
Stories Alive provides a Elementary schools and libraries with a program called The Story Machine Program. This is an empowering literacy program for schools and libraries. Children are taught how to craft high quality stories under the direction of a series of lessons inspired by the Writer’s Workshops of Lucy Calkins. Upon completion, stories are submitted into the Story Machine to be published.
A handful of stories are transformed into a unique, innovative theatrical production that celebrates literacy, inspires creativity, entertains and positively impacts the entire community as they see children’s original stories come to life on stage. All complete stories are published and shared with the community.
