BFREE’s mission is "to conserve the biodiversity and cultural heritage of Belize." As the only field station in this biologically important area, we seek to achieve our mission by successfully integrating scientific research, environmental education, and conservation initiatives in the Maya Mountains of Belize, while also enhancing sustainable development, providing alternative livelihoods, and ultimately improving the quality of life for Belizeans and visitors from abroad.
Belize Foundation for Research and Environmental Education (BFREE) is a non-profit 501 (C) 3 organization registered in the United States in 1995. BFREE manages a biological field station in southern Belize on a 1153 acre private protected area. The primary goals of BFREE are to assist the government of Belize in the conservation of Belize's protected areas and natural resources. This is achieved through facilitating scientific research, conducting environmental education programs and helping increase conservation awareness within the buffer communities nearest BFREE .
Located in Gainesville, FL, US for BFREE supports the operation and development of research, education and conservation programs taking place at the BFREE field station in Belize through marketing, membership and fundraising.
