SAVAR was founded in 1981 to aid the many women, children and men who have been affected be sexual violence. Our work is guided by the belief that survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones deserve a system that works for them and does not take away an individual's power of choice. The services we provide are aimed at empowering survivors to regain a sense of control over their lives.
SAVAR provides services to survivors of sexual assault and their families around the clock through a crisis hotline, counseling and prevention education programs. All of our services are free and confidential.
This is a great organization. I trained with a representative from SAVAR to be a rape crisis advocate, utilized their services after my own crisis, and performed last year at their Take Back the Night rally in Auburn, NY. I would encourage anyone to volunteer with these great people (I will be seeking an internship with SAVAR soon). They provide a much-needed service to a county that is largely rural and where such resources would not be available were it not for them. SAVAR could improve by getting its name heard more often, however; it is something that everyone in Cayuga County should know about.
